Jerzy Proficz, Ph.D. is the deputy director of the Centre of Informatics – Tricity Academic Supercomputer & networK (CI TASK) at Gdansk University of Technology, Poland. He earned his Ph.D. (2012) in HPC (High Performance Computing) in the subject of supercomputer resource provisioning and management for on-line data processing. Author and coauthor of over 30 scientific journal and conference publications related to HPC and cloud technologies, especially to parallel and distributed computing. Currently, he is a CI TASK team coordinator in Bridge of Data project, whose main goal is to publicly expose Open Research Data (ORD) provided by a number of Polish universities. The project is an extension to its predecessor: Bridge of Knowledge, which at the moment is a popular platform supporting Open Science initiative of Gdansk University of Technology. He is also involved in PRACE-LAB and EuroHPC projects. He has 10 years’ experience in the business environment, as a team leader and manager, as well as a software developer and designer, working for a variety of Polish and international companies (e.g. Euroscript, Sygnity). Certified Enterprise Java architect, programmer and IBM Websphere developer, specialized in business process management tools and agile development methods.
He participated in many R&D and science projects, including Recommendation Component for Intelligent Computing Clouds “KRICO” (2014-2017), Center of Excellence in Scientific Application Development Infrastructure “CD NIWA” (2013-2015), Mayday Euro 2012 (2009-2013), COPERNICUS: SEPP (1994-1997) and other National Grants R&D (1998-2003). Education: M.Sc. Eng. (1998) in Computer Science, specialty: Computer Networks, and M.Sc. Eng. (2000) in Management in Marketing, specialty: Organization of Production Systems, both at Gdansk University of Technology. Taught courses on computer science and engineering, including: system software, parallel and distributed processing, Java programming, etc.
